POOL SAFETY
As a pool owner, you are most likely aware that if you don’t maintain your pool regularly, it gets greenish, slimy and dirty.
Algae are living plant organism, and they will thrive in a pool with poor circulation, debris, and dirty water. There are many different types of algae, each of them with their specific characteristics. The green algae are most common in a swimming pool; they show up on the walls of your inground swimming pool or float on the surface of the water. Green algae are the most manageable problem to solve. Black algae have more of a blue-green appearance, and they feel very slimy. They show up along the cracks of the pool surface. They can be more challenging to treat as they are somewhat resistant to normal chlorine levels. That’s why it is so important to keep your pool well maintained! Mustard/Yellow algae sometimes can be mistaken for ‘sand’ or pollen at the bottom of your pool, especially in El Paso, with all the sandstorms! But don’t be fooled, if you see some ‘sand’ at a shady corner of your pool, it will most likely be Mustard Algae.
Although algae themselves are not per se harmful or dangerous to swimmers, it is displeasing to see, and it can even frighten children. Pools with algae could potentially create a safe harbor for other harmful bacteria, such as the E-coli bacteria.
Algae use up the chlorine in the water that generally should be working on other contaminants. And because of the lack of chlorine, the pH levels can rise.
We have a trained eye for detecting what type of algae you’re dealing with and how we can best treat them!
During our weekly or monthly maintenance, we perform testing of the water, checking for bacteria, alkalinity, nitrates, pH, sodium, chloride, fluoride, and calcium hardness. We always filter any algae out, sanitize the filter, and the pump using the best pool care chemicals on the market!

pH & alkalinity need to be checked regularly. It is not safe to swim in a pool with high alkalinity and can cause health problems and pool problems. Ideally, the pH levels should be between 7.4 – 7.6. Depending on the results of the tests, we can determine what product to add to your pool to balance your water and keep your pool pristine. We adjust the alkalinity first to the 80-100 ppm then adjust the pH to the 7.2 to 7.8 range.
We manage calcium hardness as well. Calcium hardness defines how soft or hard your pool water is. It’s a crucial factor in maintaining your pool in its optimal state. Too low of calcium hardness will cause your pool ‘s metal and plastering to erode. Too much of it will cause cloudy water.
Chlorine is the most commonly used chemical to keep your pool, Jacuzzi, or spa free from dangerous bacteria. The solution we pour into the water then breaks down into different compounds. Chlorine levels ideally should remain between 1.0 and 3.0 parts per million (ppm). Any higher than 3.0 can result in red-eye or a swimmers itch. Never throw a chlorine tablet directly into the water! This is dangerous to swimmers and will result in highly concentrated chlorine levels, which will damage your pool.
We also provide pool shock treatment. Some pool owners get it done every time in their weekly maintenance. We use granular oxidizer, a powdered form of chlorine used for pool water treatment.
We love to use this treatment to keep the chlorine levels up and to prevent algae. After we do this treatment, remember to not swim in your pool for 24 hours.

Hot tubs, Jacuzzi’s & spa’s While we get much sun in our “sunshine city,” we also experience some severe colder months. And who doesn’t enjoy dipping in a hot tub on a cold winter evening? That’s why we also offer hot tub & Jacuzzi cleaning and repair. Just like a swimming pool, hot tubs have parts that are constantly exposed to water. So they as well need regular maintenance. Often we hear from our customers that the hut tub has trouble heating up. Whatever problem you are having with your Jacuzzi or hot tub, we are here to help. From electrical issues, lighting, heating, cracks, and exterior aspects, we got you covered! Acid wash/ pool draining When you open your pool cover after a few winter months, it might be time for an acid wash. We also call it “drain and clean.” While it is not necessary if you keep your pool well maintained on a regular basis, it might be the best choice if your pool looks like a swamp. Tile, grout and deck cleaning Over time, your deck and tiles get dirty. Pool deck cleaning and maintenance is crucial because of safety, and it reduces the need for repairs in the future. We offer high-pressure washing, which will let your tiles sparkle the way they never did before! |
Saltwater conversions At El Paso pool services, we offer the service to convert your chlorine (freshwater) pool to a saline water pool. We simply install a saltwater chlorinator, which consists of a control box and a salt cell. As your pool water is passing through the salt cell, the salt in the water turns into hypochlorous acid, which is the same component when chlorine is added to the water. Saltwater pools are often more stable than chlorinated pools, so they require fewer chemicals to balance out the water. Because of the lower chlorine levels, saltwater pools are gentler on the skin and the eyes. Some of our customers are very happy with this adjustment because they were having allergic reactions because of the high chlorine levels in their freshwater pool. Now they can enjoy their pool to the fullest! Pool repair/ restoration There are different types of pools. Concrete with plaster or aggregate finishes is said to be the strongest and the most durable. Vinyl pools are built with metal or plastic frames above ground or set in an excavated hole. Fiberglass pools are mostly preformed. Every pool needs its own maintenance level. Our company will be happy to help you with all of your pool needs. We also offer leak detection and pressure washing! We repair and restore: - Pool pumps/ filters - Heaters - Electronics - Cracks & exterior |
